Too Furry, Too Furious
We got a follow up job, and met at the “Royal Apples” Tavern somewhere between the North Ward and the Sea Ward to try and sniff out the motive of the Xanathar guild for 5 gold. We’re working through our handler Rusham for the Cassalanters, and meet up at the Opera. Pyotr is undercover playing a homeless person. It’s the first time I see the Cassalanters, they seem to be old money.
The job ’s to protect them in their lounge inside of the opera together with the homeless folk and Pyotr. A dark-red Tiefling joins the Cassalanters, gives off a butler vibe, and we go in. Fancy folks are up here on the fifth floor, poorer folk downstairs. Now a black-eyed, purple-skin Tiefling is at the door, and meets with the Cassalanters. Her name is Eira. I don’t know what it is with these pupil-less black eyes, but they always freak me out. She seems to be annoyed or irritated, I wonder what that’s about. And then I overheard her say something about cultists talking to the Cassalanter Lady. What the fuck is up with that? And then she leaves in a rush, just like that. Weird.
We hear rumbling. What was that? I’m protecting the Cassalanters, they don’t seem to be in immediate danger, so I’m told to go downstairs and investigate. I grab our weapons and head down. It seems there was an explosion downstairs: five dead, one survivor. Eira is already there, what is she doing? She seems smart. I didn’t get what she was saying, but she seems to know what she is doing. She made sure that one guy didn’t die, and she wants to find out stuff from the dead people. They’re dead, so what can you learn from them? I mean they don’t talk anymore, right?
Now we’re leaving together to regroup at “Trollskull manor”, which sounds pretty dope, and we bring the bodies. Eira seems to own that place together with someone else? That’s crazy. They don’t seem to be around though. I wonder how much it costs to own a place like this. Is she rich? She doesn’t behave like rich folk, so maybe her parents are.
I put the bodies in the basement, and they search the bodies and find a connection to the Xanathar thieves guild. Also, one of the dead is a friend of Eira’s: Renaer Neverember, the son of the former Open Lord of Waterdeep. Another dead is a gnome who met with Renaer. Pyotr says that’s what one of the notes he found at the Xanathar safehouse said. Cool.
The Cassalanters arrive and they all discuss the findings. It’s confusing, but it seems everyone died because the Xanathar thieves guild and the Black Network are fighting over some “key” Renaer possessed. And the key is not a key, but a stone? Anyways, we’ll see what the Cassalanters, Lady Ammalia and Lord Victoro, are up to now. Maybe there’s some more coin in it, but first we need to get paid for this job. I’ve been doing pretty well these past days, and these folks seem to be good company. We can even stay here at Trollskull manor overnight. I guess we’ll go get some food and rations tomorrow morning.
